Job Description
The Ecological Restoration Institute at Northern Arizona University is seeking applicants for a Research Assistant to support social science research and application for the multi-year ReShape project and other transdisciplinary research aimed at facilitating and assessing the use and application of decision support systems in multi-stakeholder, collaborative wildfire risk governance, run by the Southwest Ecological Restoration Institutes (SWERI).
The Southwest Ecological Restoration Institutes, based out of Northern Arizona University, Colorado State University, and New Mexico Highlands University have received funding from the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (the “Act”) to carry out a 5-year program to develop a geospatial database and viewer that will support collaboration, management, and research, as well as inform management strategies on effects of fuels treatment on wildfire. The Research Assistant will assist a team of SWERI staff and partners working to compile and display existing fuel treatment and wildfire data, facilitate the use and application of data, and assess the effects of fuel treatments. In particular, the successful applicant will work with the Director of Policy and Communications at the Ecological Restoration Institute and the SWERI team to assist in carrying out the provision in the Act and supporting SWERI’s program of applied social science research.
Social Science Research and Translation – 70%
Assist with research, analysis, application, and communication of social science research for the SWERI ReShape project.
Scientific methods include, but are not limited to, primary and secondary social science research methods.
Assist with developing publications (white papers, working papers, fact sheets, reports, etc.) as relevant to communicate social science findings to affected entities. Assist with developing and publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts as relevant to the research community and to advance scientific knowledge.
Collaboration and Partnerships – 15%
Establish and sustain productive relationships and partnerships with affected entities engaged with SWERI on the ReShape project.
Work with collaborative groups in convening, facilitating, and information capturing and dissemination of findings from the ReShape project social science work. Assist SWERI staff with collaboration and partnerships to sustain existing relationships and build new relationships relevant to the ReShape project.
Program Management – 10%
Assist the SWERI ReShape team with program management, deliverable tracking, and accomplishment reporting to ensure compliance and complete the required deliverables.
Other – 5%
Attend coordination meetings among SWERI and ERI staff. Other duties as assigned.
