We’re excited to share major progress from the ReSHAPE team this fall. With the release of TWIG 1.0 and new research findings, managers now have stronger tools and insights to guide wildfire planning and response.
Highlights
- TWIG 1.0 launch: Streamlined navigation, integrated Interior Fuels and Post-fire Reporting System (IFPRS) data, and expanded functionality for daily fire progression tracking and anomaly detection.
- Fuel treatment compilation: SWERI staff are assembling state-level treatment data to provide managers with a more complete landscape view.
- New research publications:
- Call et al. 2025: Data Descriptor paper establishing TWIG’s technical foundation, and complete with a recommended citation for all data users.
- Stevens-Rumann et al. 2025: Evidence that Colorado’s 2020 wildfires burned less severely in treated areas, even under extreme conditions.
- Courtney et al. 2025: Mapping community wildfire management capacity across Colorado, highlighting gaps between local resources and risk.
- Accessible resources: Fact sheets, interactive storymap, and the TWIG Evaluation Report now available on the ReSHAPE website.
- Workshops and trainings:
- October 2025: Society of American Foresters conference in Hartford, CT—our largest TWIG workshop to date.
- December 2025: AFE Fire Congress in New Orleans, LA—showcased the new interface and gathered feedback through a successful workshop and booth.
- Ongoing tailored trainings and webinars at reshapewildfire.org.
- Looking ahead: The first ReSHAPE Impact Report will be released in the New Year, highlighting how TWIG and our research are shaping wildfire management on the ground.
