Summer 2026 ERI Newsletter – SWERI ReShape Program

We’re excited to announce that TWIG (Treatment and Wildfire Interagency Geodatabase) has received the Interactive Ingenuity Award at the 2026 ESRI Federal GIS Conference Virtual Map Gallery! Developed in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, the Department of the Interior, the National Association of State Foresters, and contracting partner Innovate Inc., TWIG compiles fuel treatment and wildfire data nationwide into a free, open-source platform that empowers land managers, researchers, and policymakers to plan smarter across boundaries. Recent updates include incorporation of state-level fuel treatment data and easier data source navigation.

The team also has new research out on how to get the right decision support tool to the right person at the right time — practical guidance for both DST users and creators in wildland fire management. Read the fact sheet and the full paper here.

Missed our recent AFE webinar? Watch the recording here.

Coming up, catch the ReSHAPE team at IASNR, the North American Forest Ecology Workshop, the Esri User Conference, and the Ecological Society of America Annual Meeting!

Northern Arizona University sits at the base of the San Francisco Peaks, on homelands sacred to Native Americans throughout the region.
We honor their past, present, and future generations, who have lived here for millennia and will forever call this place home.

NAU is an equal opportunity provider.
ERI's research is funded by many sources, including the USDA Forest Service and the AZ Board of Regents through the Technology, Research and Innovation Fund (TRIF).
