International Conference of COFE-FETEC 2023
Forest Operations: A Tool for Forest Management
May 23 – 25, 2023
High Country Conference Center, Flagstaff, Arizona
COFE-FETEC 2023 Conference Proceedings
During the three-day meeting, conference participants had the opportunity to discuss the most recent scientific research and professional works about the following topics:
- Training and education for forest operations workforce development
- Ecological restoration and forest sustainability
- Steep slope operations
- Operational logistics in harvesting and transportation
- Utilization of small-diameter trees and biomass
- Precision forestry
- New technology development and innovation in forest engineering
- Forest operations in sensitive zones
- General topics in forest engineering
- COFE reflections: sharing wisdom and passion for forest engineering
- Field trip to view active forest operations and processing facilities in Arizona
The conference attracted 107 participants from 12 countries, along with the United States being represented by 22 of the 50 states. There were a total of 7 technical sessions, each with 3 categories of presentations, keynotes from 4 speakers, and a 5-member panel session that shared their COFE reflections on forest engineering.
There were 61 presenters delivering a total of 82 presentations. Apart from the oral presentations, there were a total of 12 poster displays which discussed emerging forest operation practices around the globe.
On the 3rd day of the conference, there was a field trip to active forest operations sites, a new sawmill, biomass burning demonstration using air curtain burner, and areas currently being prepared for flood control using engineering methods by Coconino County Flood Control District.
Based on author preference, full papers may be published in Conference Proceedings (non-refereed) and/or two refereed journals (International Journal of Forest Engineering and European Journal Forest Engineering).
